HBJ CFO of the Year Awards Luncheon

Last week, I was invited to attend the HBJ CFO of the Year awards luncheon with our friend Michael Dummer, CFO of Wilsherco Inc. (pictured here with his wife Kim), who was a finalist in the Small Private Company category. Judges narrowed down the field from over 100 nominees, to 16 finalists in the 6 following categories:

  • Small Private Company
  • Large Private Company
  • Small Public Company
  • Large Public Company
  • Private Subsidiary of a Public Company
  • Community Impact

Winners of the HBJ CFO of the Year Awards

The winners in each category include the following:

  • Small Private Company – Kevin Boyle Sr., Sigma Cubed Inc.
  • Large Private Company – Geri Pacheco, Arch-Con Corporation LLC
  • Small Public Company – Anthony Tripodo, Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc.
  • Large Public Company – Clint Freeland, Dynegy Inc.
  • Private Subsidiary of a Public Company – Andrew Sunderman, Direct Energy Inc
  • Community Impact – Geri Pacheco, Arch-Con Corporation LLC

For the second year in a row, our friend Geri Pacheco, CFO of Arch-Con Corporation, received top honors for her company size category as well as being selected as the winner in the Community Impact category.  Congratulations, Geri!

Given the caliber of their fellow nominees and winners, these two should be extremely proud of their accomplishments.  We certainly are!

HBJ CFO of the Year Nominations for 2014

CFO of the Year NominationsThe Houston Business Journal just announced the finalists for its CFO of the Year award for 2014. The award recognizes the area’s “fearless financial strategists who provide guidance and sound advice to CEOs and directors.” The HBJ received more than 90 CFO of the Year nominations this year for the prestigious CFO of the Year award. The judges, all experts in the industry, narrowed down the field to 16 finalists from various industries, company size and longevity.

Criteria for CFO of the Year Nominations

Criteria the judges reviewed included:

  • implementation of strategic plans
  • achieving or sustaining profitable growth
  • risk identification and management
  • visionary leadership
  • turnaround of an ailing business (in some cases)

Among the finalists this year are our friends Michael Dummer of Wilsherco, Inc. and Geri Pacheco of Arch-Con Corporation (one of last year’s winners).  We are extremely proud of all these two have achieved and wish them the best of luck!

Houston Business Journal CFO of the Year Awards

The Houston Business Journal just announced the finalists for its CFO of the Year award for 2013. The award recognizes the area’s “fearless financial strategists who provide guidance and sound advice to CEOs and directors.”

CFO of the Year Nominations

The HBJ received more than 60 nominations for the prestigious CFO of the Year award. The judges, all experts in the industry, narrowed down the field to 29 finalists in the following categories:

– Small private company (< $75 million)
– Medium private company ($76-$499 million)
– Large private company ($500 million +)
– Small public company (market cap < $2 billion)
– Medium public company (market cap $2.1-$6 billion)
– Large public company (market cap $6.1 billion +)
– Non-profit
– Growth Manager
– Turnaround Specialist
– Community Impact

Coaching Program Alumni Finalist

Among the four finalists in the small private company category are two alumni of our Coaching Program; Leonard Schluns, CFO of Steel Supply LP, and Geri Pacheco, CFO of ArchCon Corporation. Needless to say, we are extremely proud of these guys and hope to see one of them win the HBJ CFO of the Year award for small private companies. Also nominated in the medium private company and growth manager categories is our friend Marilynne Franks, CFO of Blinds.com.
