The following Short|LYST job descriptions are used to differentiate between the roles on Short|LYST. The criteria includes duties that we expect the candidate to be able to accomplish as well as the requirements needed to be qualified for the role.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position acts as the strategic partner to the CFO. They take the financials the controller has produced and uses them to strategically plan future projects, guide the CEO, and improve profitability and cash flow. Some of the duties within the CFO role include:

  • Communication with department supervisors as well as executive management
  • Working with multi-discipline teams
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Review and reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Managing cash flow and cash flow forecasting
  • Supervision of accounting staff
  • Preparation of ad-hoc management reports
  • Budgeting and financial statement analysis
  • Working with the external CPA Firm on tax strategy and compliance, in preparing annual tax documents and providing tax information for preparation of tax returns by the CPA Firm
  • Managing reporting, productivity and profitability of the company
  • Acquiring financing and/or capital

The Requirements:

  • CPA preferred
  • 15+ years’ experience 
  • Accounting degree (Bachelor's)
  • Hands on operational experience 
  • Strong financial management experience 
  • Strong people skills

Controller

While the CFO looks outward, the Controller manages the financials inside the company. Some of the position duties of a Controller include:

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department for the company and its subsidiary
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Manage outsourced functions including payroll and 401k processes
  • Ensure that all reconciliations are completed in a timely manner
  • Issue timely, accurate and complete financial statements
  • Oversee the production of management reports
  • Supervision of accounting staff
  • Coordinate annual and quarterly external and internal audits
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Communication with company personnel, department supervisors, and executive management

The Requirements:

  • CPA 
  • 10 + years of experience with at least 3-5 years’ experience in a controller role
  • Previous controller or CFO experience required 
  • Strong accounting technical skills 
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience
  • CPA preferred
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are a must

Accounting Manager

Position duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Manage Accounts Payable person 
  • Manage Accounts Receivable person 
  • Enter transactions and journal entries into Quickbooks 
  • Consolidate various entities 
  • Financial analysis of the balance sheet and income statement 
  • Variance to budget analysis 
  • Manage 13-week cash flow forecast 
  • Bank reconciliations 
  • Reconcile all accounts monthly 
  • Assist owner with annual budget process 
  • Full general ledger responsibility 

The Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (accounting required) 
  • Non-CPA 
  • More than 5 years of experience 
  • Experience with a variety of systems 
  • Very Good Understanding of US GAAP 

Operations Manager

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning and monitoring change
  • Overseeing quality assurance programs
  • Researching alternate methods to improve efficiency
  • Creating and reviewing budgets and managing cost
  • Overseeing inventory, facility design and distribution of goods.
  • Recruit, train, and oversee employees

Bookkeeper

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Reconciliation of intercompany accounts
  • Management of company inventory
  • Review and reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Assist with cash flow forecasting/management
  • Communication with management
  • Preparation of ad-hoc management reports
  • Accounts payable and receivable, credit card reconciliation
  • Monthly, quarterly, annual compliance reporting (primarily sales tax)
  • Working with CPA firm to provide timely financial information for tax returns

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

Finance Director

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in company-wide budget planning
  • Oversee the budgets in each business department
  • Analyze the financial climate and market trends to assist senior executives in creating strategic plans for the future
  • Ensure that all financial practices are in compliance with regulations and legislation
  •  Implement and update financial policies and procedures
  • Consult auditing services to make sure financial monitoring is up-to-date
  • Monitor all financial transactions
  • Interpret financial information and provide updates when necessary

Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Verifies entries and compares system reports to balances
  • Charges expenses to accounts
  • Pays vendors by scheduling and preparing checks
  • Pays employees by verifying expense reports and preparing checks
  • Maintains accounting ledgers by posting transactions
  • Maintains historical records
  • Reports sales taxes
