Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Job Description

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position acts as the strategic partner to the CFO. They take the financials the controller has produced and uses them to strategically plan future projects, guide the CEO, and improve profitability and cash flow. The requirements for the CFO include:

  • CPA preferred
  • 15+ years’ experience 
  • Accounting degree (Bachelor’s)
  • Hands on operational experience 
  • Strong financial management experience 
  • Strong people skills

Some of the duties within the CFO role include:

  • Communication with department supervisors as well as executive management
  • Working with multi-discipline teams
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Review and reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Managing cash flow and cash flow forecasting
  • Supervision of accounting staff
  • Preparation of ad-hoc management reports
  • Budgeting and financial statement analysis
  • Working with the external CPA Firm on tax strategy and compliance, in preparing annual tax documents and providing tax information for preparation of tax returns by the CPA Firm
  • Managing reporting, productivity and profitability of the company
  • Acquiring financing and/or capital
